I have not built anything from scratch, so I was curious after looking at some of he sweet car pics on here.

I understand the need for weight, and weight distribution. My question is if the basic chassis weighs enough to keep the rear tires planted, would a say lighter motor/axle box help with handling? maybe a reinforced carbon fiber, transparent aluminum or other light material. I am not sure what can be used and soldered to the brass? may have to use epoxy?

well the future is 3d printing/additive manufacturing in almost every conceivable way, the analog way is dying. With the different materials you specified above I would attach them with epoxy; otherwise soldering wouldn't hold and would just burn onto the material I would think. some precision will be necessary. goodluck. as for weight you do some for gravity to play its part.
